We will be presenting Iolanthe at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England for one performance only on Sunday, August 5th, 2007. This is an adjudicated annual festival featuring three weeks of G&S productions from around the world.
All company members will be selected by audition and most will be responsible for covering their own travel expenses although we do hope to be able to fully or partially sponsor some principals and chorus members. Please do not allow lack of funds to deter you from auditioning! You will be able to indicate on the audition form your ability to cover the cost of the trip and we will distribute available funds appropriately. Estimated cost of airfare and the required 3 nights in Buxton (August 3rd, 4th, 5th) is $1000. Cast members will also be expected to cover some of their own production expenses including purchase of a score and footwear.
To schedule an audition, contact Harriet Ravdin 610-668-1721 or harriet@pgsu.org.
See below for principal audition materials. All principal roles will be offered following these two days. We will expect immediate commitment. Those who are not offered a role will be welcome to participate in the choral auditions. A British accent is heavily encouraged for all principal roles.
Plan to attend the full 3 hours on the evening of your choice. Come prepared to sing 16 bars of a song of your choice (G&S not required) that shows your range. Auditioners will rehearse and sing in ensemble groups the specific selections listed below, as well as rehearse and demonstrate basic choreographed moves. The committee encourages auditioners to review the ensemble music in advance.
Rehearsals will take place in or around Center City Philadelphia, exact location TBA.
